The Future of Computing: Smart Glasses and Headsets Will Reign Supreme

The future of computing will center around smart glasses and headsets driven by AI that can assist users with their everyday activities, Meta executives have suggested.

In the previous year, Meta introduced a novel set of augmented reality smart glasses called Orion. These glasses project digital images and information into the wearer’s view—typically a feature seen exclusively in bulkier mixed reality devices.

Alex Himel, who serves as a vice president at the technology company, noted that artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a crucial element driving the future capabilities of devices like Orion and comparable technologies—potentially enabling these gadgets to respond when a user merely looks at them.

Mr. Himel suggested that depending on digital replicas of tangible objects like televisions or photo frames might one day be commonplace.

"When discussing augmented reality, we're referring to viewing the real world and overlaying digital content onto it, and demonstrating this possibility marks a significant achievement," he noted.
