On April 18, the Gujarat Titans announced that they have signed Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as a substitute for Glenn Phillips for the rest of the IPL 2025 season. Phillips, acquired by the team for INR 2 crores, was unable to play any matches because he had to go back home following a groin injury.
This signifies Shanaka's comeback, as he had earlier represented the Titans during the IPL 2023 edition, where he participated in only three games. He has now returned to the team with an auction base price set at INR 75 lakh.
The seasoned T20 player, Shanaka has participated in more than 100 T20 internationals for Sri Lanka and adds equilibrium with his skill as a powerful batsman in the lower order and his competent medium-pace bowling.
Incorporating him provides Gujarat with greater versatility as they aim to reinforce their team for the vital latter part of the season, which has been impacted by disruptions from various injuries.
