Shahzad Ali, the CEO and a security specialist from Get Licensed — the premier provider of security training in the UK — has offered valuable advice to help travelers easily navigate through airport security checkpoints. He also shed light on various safety procedures.

He stated: "Navigating airport security can be quite stressful, particularly for individuals encountering it for the first time. I aim to assure you that it is far simpler than anticipated, provided you are ready to go through the procedures."

Ali stressed the importance of preparation when going through airport security, adding: 'You will want to make sure you have all your liquids in a clear plastic zip-lock bag, and your electronics towards the top of your hand luggage, easily accessible.'

Ali cautioned about typical behaviors that might draw unwanted notice from security personnel, stating: "How you carry yourself frequently decides if you'll be singled out by security for interrogation or additional screenings."

'Suppress your yawning and avoid laughing excessively as this could attract unwanted notice and make you look dubious.'

To make your time at the airport more pleasant this Easter, Ali suggests adhering to these seven key pieces of advice:

Arrive early

To minimize stress and anxiety, it’s important to reach the airport well ahead of time and allow yourself ample leeway.

Ali stated: "In case you have checked baggage, ensure to get to the airport no less than three hours prior to your departure time. This buffer allows enough room for potential queues during check-in and security checks."

Pack your belongings and select an appropriate luggage carefully.

Ali highlighted the significance of checking your baggage weight ahead of time to prevent potential hold-ups or additional fees.

To enhance security, choose an ordinary-looking suitcase, preferably one that appears somewhat used, so as not to attract undue notice.

A top-notch padlock is crucial for safeguarding your possessions, and adding a distinguishing marker like a ribbon or sticker can prevent your bags from being mixed up with others'.

Be smart with queues

Ali suggested, "Choose the lines where you see more business travelers rather than family groups."

Business travelers who are on the move typically carry less baggage for security screening, which can expedite their process compared to larger parties such as families embarking on vacations.

Remain vigilant

Given the busy nature of airports, it’s crucial to be alert and keep an eye on your environment.

Ali warned, "Be sure to watch over your possessions such as your phone, wallet, and passport, and inform airport personnel right away about any unusual behavior you notice."

Stay connected

Before heading to the airport, ensure your phone is fully charged and that you have a fully charged portable powerbank in case of emergency.

It would be wise to make sure you've stored all crucial telephone numbers in your smartphone and that each person in your team has every other member's contact details.

It might be helpful to link up with the airport’s Wi-Fi as well, just in case you cannot catch a signal elsewhere.

Know the exits

Ali suggested getting acquainted with the exit points and emergency evacuation routes upon arriving at the airport.
