Romanian Minister Confirms: Mintia Gas-Fired Power Plant Set for 2026 Launch

The gas-powered power station at Mintia, which has an initial output of 860 gigawatts, is set to commence operations according to plan next year. It will utilize natural gas sourced from the Neptun Deep offshore field starting in 2027, as stated by Romania’s Minister of Energy. Sebastian Burduja verified in a Facebook update.

Today, the second massive generator, which weighs nearly 800 tons and was constructed using advanced American technology, reached the construction site of the Mintia power plant. According to Minister Burduja, the Mintia project remains on track, as the crucial components required for its execution have either been delivered, set up, or are currently undergoing installation.

"Boasting a total capacity of 1,750 MW, the Mintia power station will become the biggest natural gas facility within the European Union. The ambitious aim is to have 1,000 MW operational by the end of this year," noted Burduja.

The Mass Global Energy Rom, owned by an Arab investor who acquired the struggling coal-powered Mintia facility, has guaranteed that a generation capability of 860 MW will commence operations starting January 1, 2026. This capacity is expected to increase eventually to 1,700 MW.

The construction costs amount to €1.2 billion, with an additional €270 million allocated for maintenance and upkeep throughout the plant’s 30-year operational lifespan.
