Kattankulathur (Tamil Nadu), India - On April 17th: SRM Institute of Science and Technology Launches Initiative for Worldwide Advancement in IoT Innovations 5th International Conference at Internet of Things (ICIOT 2025).

The School of Computing at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) in Kattankulathur, laid the groundwork for the 5th International Conference On the Internet of Things (IoT 2025).

Led by the Department of Computing Technologies, this conference gathers leading thinkers, researchers, and industry innovators to examine the revolutionary impact of IoT. The event emphasizes cross-border collaboration , academic excellence , along with industry-integrated research, ICIOT 2025 includes more than 20 renowned speakers from across the globe. This underscores SRMIST's dedication to advancing the future of interconnected technologies.

Dr. Arumugam Murukiah, MD & CEO at Broadline Innovations Pvt. Ltd., along with being the Chairperson of TNIFMC, presented an insightful keynote titled "From Evolution to Quantum Key Distribution (QKD): Quantum Computing and Industry 4.0." This talk provided a comprehensive exploration of how quantum technology is reshaping various sectors.

From an environmental standpoint, Dr. Thota Narayana Rao, who serves as both a scientist and head of CCSG at the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, spoke about “IoT Devices for Atmosphere Monitoring in Disaster Management and Lightning Safety.” He highlighted that “global warming coupled with rapid urbanization is altering atmospheric conditions. By leveraging IoT-driven sensors to monitor these shifts, we can better anticipate and ready ourselves for upcoming issues. Events such as the ICIOT conference play a crucial role in this regard.”

Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, who holds prestigious awards like the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan titles and serves as the Chair Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), gave a dedicated talk about the "75-Satellite Global Initiative." He detailed India’s cooperative space endeavor aimed at utilizing satellite systems for ecological surveillance, telecommunications, and eco-friendly farming practices.

Collaboration between industry and academia was a key focus of the event. Mr. P. K. Unnikrishnan, who leads R&D for Tyre Testing at Apollo Tyres Ltd., stated: “As manufacturing systems continue to develop rapidly nowadays, ongoing innovation is essential. Partnering with SRM allows our students to experience practical applications, providing us in the industry with innovative and feasible ideas—everyone benefits.” Additionally, he mentioned, “Today, sustainability plays a crucial role in tire design right from the beginning, rather than being considered only afterward.”

The event included speeches from several academic heads such as Dr. M. Leenus Martin, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Revathi Venkataraman, Head of the School of Computing; and Dr. Pushpalatha M, Associate Chairperson for CS, alongside Dr. Niranjana G (the Convenor), Dr. Jansi K R (the Organizing Secretary), and Dr. R.I. Minu (the Co-Convenor), amongst others.

Through fostering interdisciplinary knowledge sharing and encouraging innovation, ICIOT 2025 reinforces SRMIST’s role as an international center for cutting-edge research and technological progress in the Internet of Things and further afield.
