The Ogun State Government has introduced the mascot, logo, and theme song for the 2024 National Sports Festival, which will be called Gateway Games 2024.
During the inauguration event in Abeokuta on Tuesday evening, Governor Dapo Abiodun stated that the state is prepared to host an impressive National Sports Festival scheduled from May 16th to 30th.
Mr. Abiodun, who was represented by his Deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, stated that the festival would serve as a landmark event in the annals of the games.
We are prepared to elevate the standards considerably, after nearly twenty years since Ogun last held this multisport event.
He mentioned that the mascot embodies the vigor and cultural legacy of the fine residents of Ogun.
The governor praised the Local Organizing Committee for their tireless efforts around the clock to guarantee success.
He mentioned that the state government had invested heavily in the sports infrastructure, which he felt would endure long after the events and continue to be valuable for years to come.
Governor Abiodun told Team Ogun’s athletes that the entire state supported them and urged residents to enthusiastically join in and warmly greet visitors both before, during, and after the games.
He portrayed sports as a cohesive force, emphasizing that it served as a launchpad for athletes seeking international acclaim and success.
Mr. Abiodun appealed for backing from various supporters, highlighting that everyone needs to get actively involved to reach the intended objectives.
The 2024 edition will set new standards with groundbreaking concepts and top-notch preparations that will transform the overall festival experience.
The theme song was created by Dr. Bayo Adepetun, and the mascot was developed by a creative group from the state’s Department of Culture.
He stated that the symbolic elements embody the vitality, cultural legacy, and ambitions of the esteemed residents of Ogun.
According to NAN, the 22nd iteration of the sports festival is held every two years and features a variety of athletic competitions. It gathers numerous participants from all 36 states of Nigeria along with the Federal Capital Territory to honor athleticism, foster national cohesion, and showcase top-tier sporting achievements.
The festival, which celebrates Nigeria’s extensive sports and cultural legacy, is set to include competitions across 33 different athletic disciplines.
In the 21st edition of the 2022 festival, Delta emerged as champions, securing 320 gold medals, 200 silver medals, and 128 bronze medals.
Team Bayelsa secured the second position in the medal table, closely followed by Team Edo, which claimed the third spot.
