Mumbai Indians Releases Two-Time WPL Champion Coach Charlotte Edwards

Mumbai (Maharashtra), India, April 7 -- The Mumbai Indians have terminated their relationship with their two-time Women's Premier League head coach. Charlotte Edwards , who has assumed the role of head coach for the England women's team.

Edwards led the Mumbai Indians to victory in the WPL finals in both 2023 and 2025. The team announced her exit on Monday with an emotional statement: Charlotte Edwards , who led the team to two WPL championships in three seasons, will be missed by the #OneFamily and her players, whom she inspired and helped nurture during the three years."

As Edwards departed, a Mumbai Indians representative commented, " Charlotte Edwards Has served as a leader who commands immense admiration, appreciation, and respect from the whole #OneFamily. Under Charlotte’s guidance, the team has achieved remarkable success, including securing two championships in just three years. She has also played a crucial role in nurturing and motivating the players to excel at their cricket, continuing the MI legacy, and spreading happiness among the MI Paltan. We extend our heartfelt wishes for her future endeavors and express deep gratitude for all she has contributed to our squad during this period of three years.”

Edwards, a previous leader of the English national team, played for her country more than 300 times during her extensive 20-year career. During this time, she claimed victory twice at the World Cup and secured the Ashes title five times. Known as one of cricket’s greatest run scorers, Edwards amassed an impressive total of 10,273 runs in 309 internationals, including 13 centuries.

After the disappointing performance at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 and a lopsided loss of 16-0 against Australia in the Ashes series played abroad, she took over from Jon Lewis.

Following his retirement from professional play in 2017, Edwards has taken up coaching roles both domestically within England and internationally for various Twenty20 tournaments. He has achieved notable successes with teams such as the Southern Vipers in local competitions, Southern Brave during The Hundred event, Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League, and Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League.

As Edwards starts a new phase in her life, "Mumbai Indians hope Charlotte Edwards All the very best wishes go out to her in her new position with the England Women's squad, and as part of the #OneFamily, we'll keep cheering for one of the sport’s legends." (ANI)
