Morocco's Coach Calls for Increased Efforts as U17 AFCON Title Remains Elusive

Morocco’s under-17 squad needs to step up their game significantly to compete for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations title (AFCON) due to strong competition, according to national coach Nabil Baha who spoke to journalists in Mohammedia on Sunday.

Baha stated during a press briefing after Morocco’s 3-0 win over Tanzania on the third day of Group A matches, which ensured their advancement to both the quarterfinals of the U17 AFCON and the World Cup in Qatar, “The toughest challenges lie ahead as we face competitors more skilled than those from the group stage.”

"We should continue to believe in the players who demonstrated their top-tier skills, especially those in the forward line," he stressed.

Regarding this, Tanzania’s coach, Elieneze Nsanganzelu, noted that the Moroccan squad is well-organized across all aspects of play and features several skilled athletes.

From his perspective, the Tanzanian players have gained significant knowledge through their involvement, facing formidable teams and high-caliber athletes.

By the conclusion of the initial phase, Morocco secured the top position in Group A, amassing 7 points and surpassing Zambia based on goal difference. In the simultaneous game held in Casablanca, Zambia emerged victorious against Uganda with a score of 2-1.

During the quarter-finals, the Atlas Cubs are set to compete against the South African squad next Thursday at 8:00 p.m., in Mohammedia.
