Indian Hockey Heroes Unite for Peace: Supporting Children in Conflict Zones

New Delhi [India], April 7 (ANI): On the occasion of this anniversary, World Sports Day for Development and Harmony Each year on April 6, Indian hockey icons enthusiastically participated in the worldwide #WhiteCard Campaign, demonstrating their support for the peace-through-sport initiative.

The White Card , similar to other sports cards, holds significant symbolic weight. However, unlike penalty cards, the White Card represents peace, inclusivity, and optimism. This year’s initiative highlights a critical worldwide concern: 460 million children reside in areas plagued by conflicts, lacking secure places such as playgrounds and facing barriers to receiving quality education. Amidst these difficult circumstances, sports transcend mere gameplay—they become essential support systems, fostering abilities such as teamwork, mutual respect, and perseverance.

On this Global Sports Day for Community Building and Harmony Peace and Sport urge governments, civil society groups, and sporting organizations globally to acknowledge sport as an essential instrument for fostering peace and education. The Indian hockey squad wholeheartedly supports this mission—demonstrating that leaders on the field can also be advocates for positive change across the world.

As representatives of sports and harmony, the members of Indian Women's Hockey Team came forward to voice their messages of hope and purpose.

Lalremsiami , experienced forward of the Indian Women's Hockey Team asserted, “Sports have the ability to overcome obstacles and bring individuals together irrespective of their origins or tongues. The #WhiteCard initiative embodies the principles we uphold both within and beyond the playing area—respect, collaboration, and harmony. It brings me great pride to champion this cause.” White Card And advocate for a more inclusive and safer world for all children around the globe."

Indian team goalkeeper Savita Shared, "I've witnessed personally how sports can reshape lives. It provided me with self-assurance and direction, and I believe it has the potential to impact kids in war-torn areas similarly. Through participating in the #WhiteCard initiative, our aim is to strengthen the call for all children to have access to secure environments where they can engage in play, education, and peaceful development."

The team’s emerging talent and drag flick specialist Deepika commented, “Hockey has instilled in me values of discipline, bravery, and respect. Sports go beyond medal victories; they foster character development and community growth. The #WhiteCard initiative symbolizes our dedication to promoting peace and ensuring a more prosperous tomorrow for upcoming generations.” (ANI)
