In the 2024 iteration of this accolade, over 65,000 submissions were received from learners hailing from approximately 2,000 cities and encompassing around 2,260 educational institutions within India. Following a stringent assessment spanning multiple stages each year, only one individual is selected as the national champion—thus rendering the prize among the highest distinctions available to aspiring engineers in the nation. This opportunity is accessible exclusively to those pursuing their bachelor’s degree in engineering at approved universities throughout India; participants can be enrolled in any academic year ranging from first through fourth. No upper age restriction applies, yet candidates should hold either a cumulative percentage not less than 60%, or maintain a grade point average equivalent to 6.0 out of 10 points.

The multi-step selection procedure comprises an online assessment focusing on fundamental engineering skills, followed by local-level problem-solving competitions known as solution-thons. A grand national finale is scheduled for September 2025. The top contender from this event will be awarded a scholarship worth Rs3,00,000, while nine more accolades will be distributed among regional victors and second-place finishers. Apart from these monetary rewards, finalists will also earn significant national acknowledgment, chances to present their projects at crucial industrial gatherings, and entry into a dynamic worldwide community of engineering experts via IET membership.
