Mumbai (Maharashtra), India, April 7 -- On Monday, Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), achieved a milestone of 200 wickets in T20 cricket.
During his team's Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium, Pandya achieved this feat.
In the game, Pandya bowled an over consisting of four boundaries for a total of 2/45, taking down Virat Kohli and Liam Livingstone back-to-back.
In his 291 appearances, Pandya has claimed 200 wickets. Hardik shares the top spot for most wickets in IPL 2025, having secured 10 wickets across four games with an average of 12.00 and personal-best bowling figures of 5/36.
The leading wicket-taker in T20 format is Afghanistan’s spin wizard Rashid Khan, boasting 635 dismissals with an average of 16.8 and his personal best being 6 for 17.
Yuzvendra Chahal leads as India’s highest wicket-taker in T20s, having claimed 365 dismissals across 315 games with an average of 23.64 and his best performance being 6/25.
In the game, MI secured the win during the coin toss and decided to bowl initially. Despite Phil Salt’s quick departure, Virat (scoring 67 off 42 deliveries, including eight boundaries and two maximums) along with Devdutt Padikkal (notching up 37 from 22 balls featuring two fours and three sixes), ensured that MI felt remorseful about choosing to bat second as they formed an aggressive partnership worth 91 runs. Following their dismissals, captain Rajat Patidar (accumulating 64 runs in just 32 balls comprising five fours and four sixes) teamed up with Jitesh Sharma (finishing not out on 40 from 19 balls hitting two fours and four sixes) keeping the scoring rate high throughout. Consequently, RCB concluded their innings posting a total of 221 for the loss of only five wickets.
Hardik Pandya (2/45), serving as captain, along with Trent Boult (2/57), managed to take two wickets each but conceded many runs. Vignesh Puthur also claimed one wicket. In his return match, Jasprit Bumrah recorded figures of 0/29 over four overs.
RCB must protect a target of 222 runs to secure their third victory in IPL 2025 and their initial triumph at Wankhede Stadium against MI since IPL 2015. (ANI)
