Women MPs defend Susan Kihika, rebuke Kenyans questioning her whereabouts: "Outdated thinking"

Women MPs defend Susan Kihika, rebuke Kenyans questioning her whereabouts:

  • Governor Susan Kihika's absence from her county triggered widespread criticism, with part of her constituency initiating efforts to remove her from office due to alleged dereliction of duty.
  • Kihika currently resides in the United States and is reportedly undergoing postnatal evaluation following the birth of her twins.
  • A group of women lawmakers, stepping forward to support her against criticisms from opponents, stated that the governor’s extended time overseas resulted from issues she encountered following childbirth.

A group of female leaders has rallied behind Governor Susan Kihika of Nakuru amid the criticism she faces due to her extended time away from the nation.

The governor hasn't made an appearance for several months now, raising worries among both her constituents and other Kenyans.

She has resided in the United States for a period.

During the height of emotions concerning her location in January this year, Kihika clarified that she had been on leave and was away from the county under the care of her deputy, David Kones.

It later emerged that the county boss was in the US for a childbirth phase.

Even after the county leader’s explanations, her critics continued to raise doubts and started proceedings to remove her for neglecting her responsibilities.

Nevertheless, the female legislators, acting under the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), defended the governor, asserting that the criticisms against her were unjustified since her presence in the United States was not of her own choosing.
