"Unfinished Business" – Ghana Coach Otto Addo on 2026 World Cup Qualification

By Simon Asare

Accra, March 25, GNA – Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo says qualification to the 2026 World Cup is not yet sealed despite being in a good position.

After thrashing Madagascar 3-0 in their previous match, The Black Stars lead Group I with 15 points, which puts them five points above second-place Madagascar.

Nevertheless, Comoros might reduce the disparity to three points when they compete against Chad in the remaining match on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

At a post-match press conference, Otto Addo said that their main focus is securing qualification with four games remaining.

I believe we're well-placed, yet this situation carries risks too. Now, my mind is turning to ways of keeping us sharp. We still have a great deal left to accomplish.

Definitely, perhaps if Comoros emerges as the winner, we would only be three points ahead of them. There’s still a considerable journey ahead.

We need to remain concentrated. Anyone who believes we're finished is gravely mistaken. Having watched many games and witnessed numerous events, I know staying focused is crucial.

"I'm content with today's progress, but as I mentioned, the work is far from finished," Otto Addo stated.

When questioned regarding the squad's successive victories over Chad and Madagascar, Otto remarked, "As I mentioned earlier, our job isn’t finished just yet. We must continue working diligently. That’s how football goes; circumstances can change rapidly. Being a national coach means having to patiently await several more months until we can assemble the team once again."

But I'm extremely pleased with the outcomes and how we performed. In my view, they were thoroughly deserved. Yes, we're eagerly anticipating the upcoming matches.

We cannot alter what has happened before. Our focus should be on moving forward and utilizing our current position to secure a spot in the World Cup.

In September, Ghana will restart their 2026 World Cup qualification journey with matches against Chad and Mali.
