IBADAN — Yesterday, it turned into a Naira shower for six students from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso. Each of these outstanding graduates received an award of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000) from the Convocation Lecturer, Professor Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, recognizing their exceptional performance at the top of their respective classes.
At the 17th Convocation ceremonies and during the 35-year celebration since its founding, Oyelaran-Oyeyinka—a pioneering Nigerian professor specializing in Development and Industrial Policy—delivered an address as part of his role as lecturer. This university is under the ownership of the Oyo State Government.
He addressed the subject "Is Nigeria Capable of Flourishing Amidst Swift and Turbulent Technological Transformations?"
Six students were recognized as part of the top graduates for the 2023/2024 academic year at the university; among them was Adeduntan Badirat from the Science Laboratory Technology program with an impressive CGPA of 4.86. The group also comprised five engineering graduates.
The Engineering graduates include: Komolafe Teslim Gbolahan from the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering with a CGPA of 4.77, AbdulRasheed Wasiu Also who has achieved a CGPA of 4.72 in Chemical Engineering, and Oladipo Johnson Omoniyi with a CGPA of 4.71 in Civil Engineering.
Other notable students include Oyelade Oluwaseun Oluwafikunmi from Computer Engineering with a CGPA of 4.67, along with Eniade Miracle Stephen who has a CGPA of 4.62 in Mechanical Engineering.
Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, who deposited funds directly into the students' personal bank accounts, urged the Federal Government to make the enhancement of Nigeria’s technological capabilities a top priority.
Currently, he serves as the Senior Special Advisor on Industrialization for the President of the African Development Bank.
