Okeneye Launches Peace Initiative: Sport Talents Unleashed Through New Foundation

LAGOS – Hon Okene Oluwademilade Saheed, widely known as Seadof, has launched a sports foundation aimed at promoting peace.

The foundation will serve as a platform for discovering talent, reducing youth unrest, curbing drug addiction, and combating other forms of antisocial behavior.

Olumide, who is seeking the nomination from the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming Local Government Chairmanship election in Lagos Mainland, announced this during the official inauguration of his sports foundation, SEADOF Sports Foundation. The event was held at the Center Playground in Ojaniyun, Ebute-Metta, Lagos Mainland over the weekend.

Olumide, an entrepreneur and ex-employee at Airtel Nigeria, revealed that the aim of his sports foundation was to identify talents beyond just soccer, including athletes skilled in track and field events, table tennis, gymnastics, and more.

He has consequently initiated a competition aimed at achieving this objective. "I officially inaugurated my SEADOF Sports Foundation today. This organization focuses on promoting sports, particularly aiming to uncover talent within the communities of Lagos Mainland Local Government Area. Our aim is to identify promising youth across various disciplines such as soccer, track and field events, long tennis, gymnastics, among others; however, our current emphasis is on soccer. As part of these efforts, we recently commenced a tournament that kicked off on March 1st, culminating today in the finale featuring Evans All Star FC versus Ojo Oniyun All Stars."

The concept revolves around establishing a sports foundation aimed at identifying talents across Lagos mainland," explained Olumide. "We firmly believe that our youth possess incredible abilities, and without this initiative, those gifts might go unutilized.

He insisted that despite recurrent conflicts between Lagos Mainland’s Eastern and Western sections, his sports foundation could serve as a cohesive element fostering harmony among these groups. "Lagos Mainland consists of an Eastern part and a Western part; previously, there was significant violence and instability within those areas. However, through our football initiatives, we aim to bridge this divide. We strive to unite everyone under one banner—emphasizing that coexistence trumps conflict. Our message is clear: resorting to violence or engaging in drug use serves no purpose. Instead, coming together is essential because sports, particularly soccer, inherently fosters unity."

Examine the state of the economy; despite any issues within it, when there is a football match, people still flock to watch, whether it's part of the Nigerian league or the English Premier League. Therefore, we urge the government to focus on developing football extensively so that young Nigerians won’t feel compelled to spend their money watching foreign leagues like the Premier League or La Liga. Instead, investments should be made in the local Nigerian league since we firmly believe Nigeria has immense talent. The aim here is to close the divide among youths from different regions—East and West—and bring them closer through sports. We must convey that violence and drug use do not lead anywhere positive. What truly matters is fostering peace and promoting good sportsmanship. By coming together for this 'round leather' sport—a term often used for soccer—we can ensure tranquility prevails. Thus, we strongly advocate for peace and actively campaign against substance abuse.

Discussing his platform as a candidate for the chairman position at Lagos Mainland Local Government, he stated, "My campaign revolves around community development and human capital development. Community development covers every aspect related to infrastructure—such as streets lights, well-maintained roads, piped water—and overall progress within the area. Human capital development focuses on nurturing individuals across various aspects of their lives, empowering them to contribute positively both personally and communally. This includes fostering talent and preventing passivity among residents, ensuring they can play an active role in enhancing themselves and their surroundings."

Regarding his education and experience, he stated, "The regulations require at least a School Certificate or something comparable as a baseline qualification, and fortunately, I meet this criterion. In addition to having earned a School Certificate, I hold both a Bachelor’s degree in History and International Relations and another Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Furthermore, I’ve obtained a Master’s degree in Criminology. Professionally, I am an entrepreneur. Prior to launching my own venture, I was employed by Airtel Nigeria."
