Morocco Unveils Bold New Terminal Project at Mohammed V Airport

The Moroccan National Airports Authority (ONDA) intends to enhance Mohammed V Airport by constructing a new terminal designed to serve as an international gateway. This initiative is included in the "Airports 2030" plan, which seeks to transform Morocco’s airport facilities into among the most advanced globally.

Capable of accommodating up to 20 million travelers annually, this terminal will stand out as an architectural and technological masterpiece. It has been crafted to cater to the requirements of major global airports, focusing on streamlining transfer durations, improving luggage processing, and enhancing the utilization of jetways.

A key benefit of the project is its seamless integration with the high-speed rail line (LGV) between Kenitra and Marrakesh. This marks a first for Morocco, offering straightforward passage from the nation’s principal urban centers to the airport. Consequently, it drastically cuts down travel durations and bolsters the attractiveness of the transit center.

Besides the terminal, the project encompasses building a new runway measuring 3,700 meters in length and 45 meters in width, along with associated taxiways and airplane parking areas. To enhance air traffic control, a new 42-meter-tall control tower will be added as an integral part of this development.

Structured across three tiers, the terminal aims to provide an engaging environment that merges comfort, contemporary design, and elements of Moroccan culture. Travelers can take advantage of numerous amenities such as duty-free stores and eco-friendly rest zones adorned with mini-oases and botanical spaces reflecting Morocco’s rich flora.

Moroccan architectural elements abound: Andalusian designs, Berber rugs, and classic archways come together in a modern and cutting-edge design. The rooftop stands out as an incredible feat of craftsmanship, reminiscent of 'bejmat' and terra-cotta zellige tiles, celebrating the heritage of the country’s southern regions.

ONDA intends to progressively initiate tenders for construction, with the earthmoving contract currently in progress. The terminal is expected to be completed by 2029, with an approximate investment of 15 billion dirhams.

This significant initiative is also contributing to Morocco’s preparations for the 2030 World Cup, underscoring the nation's aim to position itself as a prominent aerospace center.
