Pupils Glowfield International School amazed audiences with impressive displays during their first-ever interschool sports event, which took place at Salem Christian Centre in Lekki, Lagos State, on Saturday.
Sapphire House came out as champions of the vibrant event, which included a parade and athletics contests, after concluding the swimming and football competitions prior to the main day. Both parents and faculty members joined in numerous activities such as races and tug-of-war matches.
Mrs Blessing Anenechukwu, Director of Glowfield International School, stated that the sports competition was in line with the institution's fundamental mission.
“This inter-house sport is in line with our vision as a school, which is to discover and activate the star in every child, establishing communities of creative,e joyful learners who are fortified for global relevance,” she said.
Every child may not excel as a top academic performer, yet each possesses various abilities that could thrust them into the spotlight and grant them worldwide significance. Therefore, our dedication lies in uncovering all talents that children possess.
Anthony Anenechukwu, who leads Glowfield, highlighted the institution's commitment to comprehensive education.
"We are utilizing this to showcase our dedication to offering a comprehensive education that goes further than just academic pursuits, with an emphasis on the holistic growth and welfare of our students," he said.
The event featured former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai as a distinguished guest. He shared his joy over the displays he saw, stating, "I am incredibly thrilled by the wonderful performances of our students, the acrobatics, and the vibrant colors."
This is also where I and other national athletes began our journey, right from school days. It’s during this period that parents often spot talents and begin motivating their children."
Julius Charles, the Sports Manager at Glowfield, praised the zeal shown by the participants.
“I witnessed tremendous enthusiasm today across every household; everybody emerged as a victor. These individuals are not just champs but also budding prodigies, and our hope lies in witnessing their ascent," he commented.
The children were incredibly delighted to take part and get involved even with our restricted selection of games. It was evident that they possess a great sense of sportsmanship, which brings me immense happiness.
Deborah Momoh, who teaches deputy health, emphasized the significance of sports activities for children's growth and development.
"The inter-house sporting events hold significant value for kids since they contribute to their physical development, mental growth, enhance their resilience, and instill teamwork skills along with teaching them how to accept both victory and defeat gracefully. This ultimately benefits the overall wellbeing of each child," she elaborated.
