Betta Edu Welcomes Emir of Kano and Dignitaries for Iftar in Calabar

As part of her significant showcase of unity and religious coexistence, Dr. Betta Edu invited His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, to an Iftar dinner at her home in Calabar.

The Emir, who concurrently serves as the Chancellor of the University of Calabar, came with an esteemed group.

At the event, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, stood in for the Governor along with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi. Leading a group that included the Chairperson and members of the university’s governing council, administrative staff, faculty, and both current and prospective students, the Vice-Chancellor attended the program.

The event was attended by the leaders of the Muslim community in Cross River State along with other devout Muslims, coming together in the spirit of Ramadan.

The interfaith event occurred during a significant time, aligning with the Christian season of Lent. This highlighted Nigeria’s extensive cultural and religious variety, emphasizing the country’s enduring commitment to harmony and reciprocal regard among different communities.

Edu, during his speech, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s steadfast dedication to promoting national cohesion, valuing different cultures, and encouraging religious tolerance, all of which align with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

During this holy month of Ramadan, she conveyed her sincere greetings to the Islamic community. Additionally, she marked the 50th anniversary of her university, the University of Calabar, with great joy.

"I wish everyone celebrating a Ramadhan Kareem, and I'm also commemorating the 50th anniversary of my alma mater, the University of Calabar," she stated.
