Luring UK-Born Warriors: Nees Eyes English Talent

The coach of the Warriors, Michael Nees, is visiting England for a one-week trip aimed at connecting with UK-born players who show promise for potentially joining the senior men's national soccer team.

Nees is joined by Marshall Gore, who serves as the Chairperson of the ZIFA Global and Diaspora Committee based in England.

Formed in February, this committee is tasked with collaborating closely with national team coaches and assisting them in identifying talented individuals from Zimbabwe who reside abroad.

Among his primary priorities, Nees plans to speak with Liverpool's promising young player Trey Nyoni, who has Zimbabwean origins.

At the age of 17, Nyoni made his first appearance in the English Premier League (EPL) for Liverpool last year duringJurgen Klopp's tenure as manager. He has since become a consistent presence in the team this season.

In addition to Nyoni, the team leader is also anticipated to involve Shumirai Mheuka, who recently played his first match in the English Premier League for Chelsea.

Mheuka is the offspring of Malcolm Mheuka, a previous member of the Zimbabwe Saints team. Some time ago, Malcolm spoke to the media expressing that he would not pressure his child into playing for the Warriors; instead, he would allow him the freedom to choose independently.

Mheuka and Nyoni have already earned some caps with England’s youth national teams, but they could still switch to representing the Warriors as long as they haven’t played more than three times for England’s senior national team.

It is also rumored that Nees has expressed an interest in hiring players such as Isaac Mabaya from Liverpool juniors, Lucien Mahovo from Norwich City, Tivonge Rusehesha at Reading, and Camron Mpofu from Manchester United juniors, along with several others.

Nees will receive support from Zimbabwe’s two captains residing in England: Marvellous Nakamba, who plays for Championship club Luton Town, and his deputy Marshall Munetsi, who has recently signed with Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers.
