Sinisa Mihic, the head coach of Gor Mahia, has apologized for his explosive behavior which resulted in his ejection from Monday’s FKF Premier League match against Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in Machakos.
The Croatian player states that his response stemmed from dissatisfaction over the officiating calls that adversely affected his squad.
“I wish to apologize to the referee… it wasn’t up to par on my end…I am truly sorry. However, we aren’t naive…we can see for ourselves. I’m unsure who’s calling the shots with the referees, but it’s implausible that most decisions would consistently work against us. We’re not a squad known for fouling…it goes against how we play football. This simply isn’t feasible…and even when a situation warrants a yellow card, such sanctions often fail to materialize,” stated Mihic.
The supervisor also complained about the extra time needed for the project.
"The additional minutes are another concern... we've never been granted those extra eight minutes like other teams do. Having spent two months here, I've observed this discrepancy, and it doesn’t seem fair play,” stated Mihic.
The strategist received instructions to leave from center referee Brooke Philip in the 49th minute after an intense verbal confrontation.
Even with sideline commotion, the team secured their 21st FKF Premier League title after Austin Odhiambo scored the only goal of the game during the first half.
Mihic was pleased with how well his players conducted themselves under difficult circumstances on the field, which experienced a torrential rainstorm on Sunday night.
"I want to express my gratitude to both the players and the supporters. I enjoyed the way we controlled possession and took over in the first half. During the second half, the focus shifted towards handling the match according to the state of the field. We needed to stay defensive and seize chances when they arose. Naturally, because of the scoreboard, our adversaries tended to possess the ball more often," he stated.
This victory pushes K'Ogalo to 46 points after playing 25 matches — just behind Kenya Police and Tusker, who lead the league table occupying the first and second spots respectively.
Next, they will face Sofa Club on Wednesday.
