According to Alan Shearer, former players from Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United top the list as some of the greatest Premier League fullbacks ever.
The all-time leading goalscorer in the league’s history was featured on the Match of the Day Top 10 podcast, where he compiled the list together with analyst and ex-fullback Micah Richards.
Although they had differing opinions on the positioning of certain items, both agreed on including the same 10 names. Here is the list Sherarer chose:
10. Micah Richards
Given that Richards was present in the room, Shearer might have been influenced and placed the ex-Manchester City player at number 10 on his list.
Shearer believes that if Richards had maintained his fitness, he would have been "right up there."
Richards made 204 appearances in the Premier League, netting seven goals and providing 11 assists, and claimed the title in the 2011-12 season.
9. Patrice Evra
The initial dispute among the experts occurred at number nine, where Shearer chose Evra.
The French player signed with Manchester United in 2006 and established himself as a key figure under Sir Alex Ferguson, playing 273 matches in the Premier League.
Before transferring to Juventus in 2015, he claimed five championships during that period; Shearer referred to him as a "remarkable athlete."
"Rapid and powerful, he would rise and fall as an integral member of that highly successful Manchester United squad," Shearer commented.
Meanwhile, Richards secured the fourth position.
8. Lee Dixon
As the Newcastle legend acknowledged that the game had evolved over time, Dixon secured the eighth spot on Shearer’s list.
"The game has evolved, but if you're searching for a defender you can count on within that system, then jackpot. He was ideal," stated Shearer.
When George Graham was at the helm, Dixon signed with Arsenal, but he maintained his position after Arsene Wenger took over.
In addition to Nigel Winterburn, Tony Adams, and Steve Bould, Dixon was part of a renowned Arsenal backline and claimed two Premier League titles with the London team.
7. Stuart Pearce
After making 202 Premier League appearances, Psycho ranks seventh on Shearer's list.
The ex-Nottingham Forest player received commendation from Shearer due to his dedication to the sport.
As an outstanding professional, few surpass his abilities," he remarked. "He would be loath to reveal that he was injured.
The penalty he scored at Euro 96 against Spain perfectly encapsulates what Pearcey embodies. After missing his previous penalty in 1990, having the courage to step up and take another one shows who he truly is.
6. Kyle Walker
Among the most acclaimed players in Premier League annals stands Walker, having claimed six league championships whilst playing for City.
Having signed with Tottenham, the English defender's speed was an essential component for Pep Guardiola’s squad. If the team was ever exposed during a rapid transition, more often than not, it was Walker who managed to clean up the situation.

5. Gary Neville
Selected as the runner-up by Richards, Gary Neville managed to secure only the fifth spot in Shearer’s ranking.
The leading commentator on our television screens now, Neville is an integral part of Manchester United’s history. While players like David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo shone prominently during his time, Neville was consistently dependable under Ferguson's management.
"On the field, I believe he was more dependable than show-stopping, which isn’t a drawback for someone in defense," Shearer commented.
He was exceptionally skilled. He performed admirably on several strong teams, alongside talented teammates, yet his proficiency in fulfilling his role stood out.
4. Andy Robertson
In 2017, Scotsman Robertson transferred to Liverpool from Hull and paired up with Trent Alexander-Arnold as the team's dynamic wing defenders.
The 31-year-old ranks second in assists among outright defenders on his team within the league.
3. Trent Alexander-Arnold
Views differ regarding Alexander-Arnold’s defending skills; however, when advancing with the ball, very few excel like he does.
His ability to pass effectively emerged as a crucial offensive weapon for Klopp’s squad, and ever since he made his debut at 18 years old, this Liverpudlian native has consistently held a spot in the lineup.
Although his tenure in the league might end shortly due to speculation about a transfer to Real Madrid, he remains without question one of the most skillfully talented defenders the league has witnessed.

2. Denis Irwin
A point of contention among the analysts was their placement of Irwin; Richards ranked him seventh, whereas Shearer placed him at second.
Irwin has garnered significant acclaim from figures such as Ferguson and Roy Keane, and even Shearer held him in high regard.
He was known as Mr. Reliability, rarely missing a game and consistently scoring goals," the ex-England skipper stated. "Manchester United got an incredible deal when they signed him from Oldham for £600,000.
He repaid that debt plus a few million extra. He was typically the quiet member of that Manchester United squad, yet he operated as the silent killer.
1. Ashley Cole
The unrivaled top choice, it has been 11 years since Cole departed from the Premier League, yet nobody has approached his level of skill.
Rapidly mounting offensive threats yet equally robust in defense, Cole ranks among the finest fullbacks both within the league’s annals and throughout the entire sporting history.
This was the simplest choice for me to rank as number one," Shearer stated. "Ashley Cole shines above everyone else when it comes to defenders. He was the best at his position.
Hardly anybody managed to get through to him; you couldn't bully him since he was tough as nails. At times, he could be quite unpleasant and vile.
But in a one-on-one situation, he was outstanding.
